US President Gives "Strong Support" to His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Washington: US President Barack Obama met this morning at the White House with His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama. The President stated his "strong support
for the preservation of Tibet’s unique religious, cultural and
linguistic identity and the protection of human rights for Tibetans in
the People’s Republic of China".

The President commended the Dalai Lama's "Middle Way" approach, his commitment to nonviolence and his pursuit of dialogue with the Chinese
government. The President stressed that he has "consistently
encouraged both sides to engage in direct dialogue to resolve
differences and was pleased to hear about the recent resumption of
talks".

The President and the Dalai Lama agreed on the importance of a positive and cooperative relationship between the United States and China.

"Today's meeting is a clear demonstration of President Obama's support for His Holiness the Dalai Lama's efforts to resolve the Tibet issue as well as
of his personal respect for him," said Lodi Gyari, the Special Envoy of
His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

To stick to Principles of humanism is a greater virtue than national short term political interests. Unique cultural, religious and linguistic identity must be presrved and in this era of conscience developing at a higher level , I hope a new world order will develop where humanism will be consideed the greatest virtue and there will be genuine respect to all cultures exisisting around the globe and greater exchanges will enrich the human race, as it must.

Comment by Alfonso on February 20, 2010 at 8:46am: I think this is a highly important event, eventhough it is mainly diplomatic, it gives the world a very clear signal on what side is correct, and what side should ammends its way.

I hope chinese people and specially the current chinese government may read the right way this signal. The world is tired of abuse, and manipulation of facts, the simple truth is just one, it is no necessary to go further and to keep trying to show what is not the truth, everyone can see it. The motherland gives care and love to her children, not exactly what is actually happening in Tibet.

My big respect to President Obama, for having the courage to receive officially HHDL at White House and my love and admiration forever to HHDL, may the Budha's Light touch the hearts of Chinese powerful people and give the humankind another proof that we are a big civilization, please we need it!

Comment by Matthew Kurylowicz on February 20, 2010 at 6:41am: Mmmmm?There are sounds of echos once again.We all know what needs to be done on the issues of dialect between Tibet and China, but is anybody going to make a real effort to actually support Tibet and leave their political and financial interests asside.Unfortunatly i dont think so.We need a cultural revolution where peace,love and compassion are our only motivation,not financial and power.

Peace requires balance, a respectful relationship. It means seeing eachother eye to eye, not taking an eye for an eye. We are lucky to live in a world where these two great teachers can work together for the sake of so many.
We will all need to be strong in heart and more flexible now than maybe we have ever imagined. An army of peaceful warriors may not sound quite right. Let's free our thoughts of armies of violence and use our human arms well, extending and receiving the activity of meeting eachother's needs together. Let's keep in mind all of those people in China, Tibet, the US, and everywhere else who do not seek power over, but who seek "power with." Om mane padme hum.
