Dalai Lama to fund 'neuroscience of compassion'

His Holiness Comments on the Thirty-seven Practices of a Bodhisattva

The Text

I shall now give just a short commentary on this text. I have received its lineage from Kunu Lama Rinpoche, Tenzin-gyeltsen, and he received this from the prior Dzogchen Rinpoche in the province of Kham. This is just a little background history and this copy, in fact, I brought with me from Lhasa.

The sources for these teachings are Shantideva’s Engaging in Bodhisattva Behavior (sPyod-‘jug, Skt. Bodhisattvacharya-avatara), Maitreya’s Filigree of Mahayana Sutras (mDo-sde… Continue

Buddhism and Democracy

Washington, D.C., April 1993

1. For thousands of years people have been led to believe that only an authoritarian organization employing rigid disciplinary methods could govern human society. However, because people have an innate desire for freedom, the forces of liberty and oppression have been in continuous conflict throughout history. Today, it is clear which is winning. The emergence of peoples' power movements, overthrowing dictatorships of… Continue

Buddhism and other religions

Oh Blessed One, may I not come to the complete awakening if, when I have done so, the bodhisattvas of my land should not manifest their roots of merit and offerings before other Buddhas in forms entirely conforming to what is acceptable and desirable to those Buddhas.

This is the 24th vow of Dharmakara Bodhisattva and it constitutes a manifesto for respect toward other wholesome religious traditions.

This is what HH the Dalai Lama says about religion:

A Long Life Prayer to the Dalai Lama

OM SVASTI

O our gurus, and your line of lamas, for whom we have the deepest gratitude,

You who are the repository of the three: secret powers of body, speech, and mind of innumerable buddhas,

Who manifest in a miraculous way to each devotee according to his capacity,

To you, who are the wish-fulfilling gems, the source of all virtues and good qualities,

We offer our prayers with intense devotion

That our protector of the great Land of Snows,

Tenzin Gyatso,… Continue

Thanks for welcoming me.

It's a gift to honour His Holiness. It's a true gift to Help Tibet agains Chinese disgusting occupation. I would like not to have to fight against Chinese disgusting occupation, of course. Tibet should be free and recognized as a free nation. It is independent since 1913!

Cheers from Brazil, Alysson.

Tashi Delek Michael, and many thanks for the nice welcome. Actually i was a member before and there should be quite a lot of my photos on here somewhere. Unfortunately I had some "interference" with my email address when i was living in Nepal and had to change it, so i think i lost the ability to re-open my old account unfome to incrreas my sopiunately. i am currently located in a somewhat difficult place, in more ways than one, and I must somehow find time to increase my spiritual practice. HH as always been a great inspiration to me and I hope that I can both contribute and gain from this site.
