"As people alive today, we must consider future generations: a clean environment is a human right like any other. It is therefore part of our responsibility toward others to ensure that the world we pass on is as healthy, if not healthier, than we found it." - His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Must Buddhists be vegetarian ? This is a constant debate among the Buddhists schools. In fact, many modern Buddhists do not know the reason or rational behind this 'rule'. So, what did the Buddha say ?The Buddha teaches that a person is considered pure & virtuous by his thoughts, speech & actions, and not whether he eats meat or not. A person may be a strict vegetarian (Hitler is a very good example) but still commit heinous crimes. A person may eat meat, but he can still practise the…Continue

As we are aware, abortion can be defined as “the termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus from the uterus, resulting in or caused by its death”If a child is meant to be born at a certain time for a specified pair of parents, killing him/her at a certain stage of the early age of the child is questionable. But if there is a reason such as:1. The mother is an underage rape victim and she is not physically fit enough to bear the child2. The mother is an AIDS…Continue

I have been self studying Buddhism for over 4 years now, but after allthis time I am still bothered with many unanswered questions. Idesperately tried to find the teacher to help me understand thingsbetter, but due to luck of funds and inability to travel far I had noluck...And the deeper I get into to subject the more puzzled andconfused I seem to get. For example I can not understand biggestthing about compassion: humble acceptance without involvement.... If wepractice compassion by loving…Continue

So often we, as respectful admirers of HHDL, continue to look to him to solve something for us.I think this must be turned around......It is time for us to demonstrate, through our words and actions, how his tireless efforts have benefited us and helped others. By showing him that we listened, and learned (to the best of our respective abilities and situations), we give HHDL the best support we can give him......feedback that his efforts have already produced great fruits. With this encouraging…Continue

Realisation: Do Bad Parents Karmically Beget Bad Kids?Source: http://www.thedailyenlightenment.comParental genetic inheritance is llusiory as we 'inherit' similar but personal karmic tendencies from our past. There is a common misunderstanding that negative karma from parents can be passed on to their children, as if karma can be 'transfered' via inherited genes. This idea is hard to debunk because it can seem true that parents who do much evil…Continue

(« Goldfish Pulling a Snail Cart » by James Pollock)
« Perseverance » is the fourth of the series of segues composed to join the tracks of an album together into one continuous piece of music.
Each of the junctions highlights a specific quality or knowledge that turned out to be crucial to the completion of a project that demanded many years of sustained striving. As the title indicates, « Perseverance » evokes the capacity to keep going at those times when efforts seem insufficient, and success appears unlikely.
Those of you familiar with the repertoire of Poligraf will possibly recognize some of the themes…

(« Detail of a poster for the International Hygiene Exhibition 1911 in Dresden » by Franz von Stuck)
« Understanding » is the third segue in the series that I have written as a means of combining earlier compositions into a conceptual piece of nearly one hour in duration.
Each of the miniature musical junctions emphasizes a particular lesson that was learned over the course of a demanding quest, proving essential to the success of the endeavour. In the case of « Understanding, » the acquired knowledge concerns what I refer to as the redirection principle, which is also explored in more depth in « Juggernaut, » and « On the Meaning of Sin, » an upcoming…
